Description
Medium extra thickness on LIBERTY for the 1956 Washington Silver Quarter, from the 90% silver composition era of this design in continuous production since 1932. Die tracking: UVC-0877, DMR-019. Stage A: EDS (unconfirmed). Stage B: MDS (unconfirmed). Stage C: numerous die scratches on Washington's face at LDS, with reverse also at LDS. The Stage C face scratches provide a definitive late-state marker. John Flanagan's portrait, adapted from the Houdon bust, shows extra thickness most prominently on LIBERTY letter serifs. Philadelphia struck approximately 44 million silver quarters in 1956. Cataloged by VarietyVista.
