Description

Class II Distorted Hub Doubling with close doubling on E PLURIBUS UNUM distinguishes this thirty-ninth DDR for the 1956 Proof Jefferson Nickel, attributed by Brian A. Ribar. Proof dies undergo the same hubbing process as business strikes, making DDRs possible but inherently scarcer on proofs. Die markers: obverse two die scratches on front of Jefferson's collar; reverse die scratch above left arch, scratches left of long left window, die dot below E of CENTS. Cross-referenced as Wexler Variety ID: 1956 WDDR-039 Proof. Schlag's Monticello arches and columns are where the distortion manifests most clearly.
