1956 Doubled Die Obverse DDO-008

Description

DDO-008 of the 1956 Proof Franklin half dollar (Type 1) features medium extra thickness on LIBERTY, indicating hub doubling concentrated on the obverse legend. This variety is tracked under two separate UVC/DMR pairings reflecting a reverse die change during the production run. Stages A and B use UVC-100 and DMR-014: Stage A is the early die state with a die gouge on the vertical bar of the D in GOD, and the reverse is listed as DDR-004 paired with RDV-002, with light east-west die scratches on the bell hanger. Stage B reaches mid-die state with a die break developing between IB of PLURIBUS. At Stage C the reverse die was changed, shifting to UVC-101 and DMR-015 with the obverse in late-mid die state and a mid-die state reverse. Stage D is late die state, unconfirmed. Stages A and B are listed as DDR-004, making early die state examples a doubled die obverse and doubled die reverse die marriage.
