Description

One of the most famous Franklin Half Dollar die clashes, the 1956 TDC-50C-1956-01 is popularly known by the "Bugs Bunny" or "Dracula" nickname among collectors. The clash event transferred the right wing of the eagle from the reverse die into the lip area on the obverse, creating the appearance of protruding teeth that inspired the variety's colorful moniker. The angular clash impression visible under the eagle's right wing on the reverse was created by the field below Franklin's nose and upper lip on the obverse die. A raised and abraded area on the reverse results from the back of Franklin's head transferring during the die clash event. Struck in 90% silver, this variety demonstrates how a relatively common die manufacturing error can produce a dramatically visual result that captures collector imagination. The "Bugs Bunny" Franklin remains one of the most widely recognized and actively collected die clash varieties in the entire U.S. coin series.
