1956-D Doubled Die Obverse DDO-008
Error
Description
Completing the trio of 1956-D eyelid varieties, DDO-008 parallels DDO-003 in die-state profile — confirmed in Early Die State with both obverse and reverse showing fresh surfaces — yet comes from an entirely different working die, as evidenced by its distinct markers UVC-1887 and DMR-029. Where DDO-003 carries UVC-1882/DMR-024 and DDO-006 carries UVC-1885/DMR-027, the separation by unique UVC and DMR assignments confirms three independent dies, each exhibiting the same strong southward eyelid spread produced during hubbing from the same master hub. This pattern — multiple working dies sharing identical doubling — occurs when a doubled working hub imparts its error to every die it sinks, creating a family of related varieties distinguishable only by individual die markers and die-state behavior. All three used the Solid 6 hub with its characteristic filled numeral. The 1956-D was struck at the Denver Mint in bronze composition (95% copper). Examine Lincoln's eyelid under 7x magnification to confirm the strong southward spread, then reference the UVC/DMR codes and die-state evidence to distinguish DDO-008 from its two companion varieties.
