1955-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-009

Description

Documented by VarietyVista, this Denver Mint Lincoln Wheat Cent from the year of the famous 1955 doubled die obverse displays a repunched D mintmark with a reverse die change during production. Die markers span two pairings: UVC-541 / DMR-011 for Stages A-C and UVC-1181 / DMR-018 for Stage D. Stage A with a die gouge dot between E and T of WE TRUST at EDS and reverse at EDS; Stage B with a die crack over V.D.B. at MDS and reverse at MDS; Stage C with a light die crack on forehead at LDS, a light die crack in hair, a die chip in lower left wheat grains at LDS, and a small die chip on T of CENT; Stage D with die cracks on obverse stronger at VLDS and reverse die changed at EDS. The fresh reverse at Stage D confirms the obverse die outlived its first reverse pairing. Composed of 95% copper and 5% tin-zinc at 3.11 grams and 19.05 mm.
