1955-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-008

Description

RPM-008 on the 1955-D Lincoln Wheat Cent shows the D mintmark punched over a previous D impression in a different position, attributed by VarietyVista. Die markers are UVC-540 and DMR-010. Stage A is early die state (unconfirmed). The 1955 Lincoln cent is one of the most discussed dates in the Wheat Cent series, known primarily for the famous 1955 doubled die obverse — a major rarity struck at Denver. The Denver Mint's 1955-D cent shares none of that notoriety but is a solid production issue, and RPM-008 documents the hand-punching variation that occurred when working die mintmarks were applied individually before each die entered service. The D/D repunching on RPM-008 is visible as a secondary D impression displaced from the primary strike.
