Documented by VarietyVista, this Denver Mint 1955-D Lincoln Wheat Cent RPM-004 demonstrates a counterintuitive phenomenon where the secondary mintmark shows no separation at EDS but develops visible separation at LDS. Die markers UVC-535 / DMR-005: Stage A with secondary mintmark showing no separation at EDS, die scratches north-south on obverse, and reverse at EDS; Stage B with die scratches northwest through date at MDS and reverse at MDS; Stage C with die scratch from 1 of date south through vest at LMDS and reverse at LMDS; Stage D with secondary mintmark showing separation at LDS, obverse die scratches worn away, and reverse at LDS; Stage E with obverse and reverse at VLDS. This progression contradicts the typical pattern where repunching becomes less visible with wear, suggesting the surrounding die surface wore faster than the protected repunch area, revealing it. Composed of 95% copper and 5% tin-zinc at 3.11 grams and 19.05 mm.
