Description

Notable for tracking five progressive die stages — an unusually extended lifecycle — this VarietyVista-documented 1955-D Lincoln Wheat Cent from the Denver Mint shows evolving T of CENT damage across the full production run. Die markers UVC-533 / DMR-003: Stage A with obverse and reverse at EDS; Stage B with obverse at EMDS and die crack east of T of CENT at EMDS; Stage C with obverse at MDS and die chip on T of CENT at MDS; Stage D with die crack on forehead at LDS and reverse at LDS; Stage E with obverse at VLDS and die crack from lower right wheat to rim at VLDS. The T of CENT progression from crack at EMDS to chip at MDS documents the transition from structural stress to metal displacement.
