Description

A D/S Centered over mint mark with the reverse also listed as DDR-003, this VarietyVista-documented 1955-D Jefferson Nickel combines inter-facility die transfer evidence with doubled die characteristics. Over mint marks occur when a die receives two different letter punches, here a Denver D applied over a San Francisco S. Die markers UVC-405 / DMR-006: Stage A with a die scratch west from the dome at EDS, a die scratch North-South through D of UNITED, and two die scratches North-South in front of eye at EDS; Stage B with reverse and obverse at MDS; Stage C with only the die scratch through D of UNITED remaining at LDS and obverse die scratches worn away at LDS. Composed of 75% copper and 25% nickel at 5.0 grams and 21.21 mm, the surviving S impression beneath the D documents inter-mint die transfer practices. The DDR-003 pairing creates a multi-variety specimen.
