Description
Recorded by VarietyVista, this San Francisco Mint Lincoln Wheat Cent carries the 14th cataloged repunched S mintmark for the date. Die markers UVC-531 / DMR-021: Stage A at EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B with obverse at MDS and a die chip in lower right wheat grains; Stage C with a long die scratch off the back of the head to the L of LIBERTY at LDS, with reverse also at LDS. The die chip in the wheat grains and the prominent head-to-LIBERTY scratch provide secondary attribution markers beyond the primary RPM. Composed of 95% copper and 5% tin-zinc at 3.11 grams and 19.05 mm, the 1954-S had a mintage of approximately 96.2 million pieces, among the lower San Francisco cent outputs of the 1950s.
