Cataloged by MadDieClashes as ADC-1c-1954S-01, this 1954-S Lincoln Wheat Cent preserves a tilted die clash initially misidentified as a wide die crack. The bar between the B and U of PLURIBUS confirms the anomaly is an actual clash transfer rather than a structural fracture, a distinction that fundamentally changes the attribution. Die overlay analysis reveals the precise angular position of the dies at the moment of impact, demonstrating that the reverse die was tilted relative to its normal orientation when the clash occurred. Notably, the obverse die shows no signs of having been clashed and may have been replaced before this reverse entered the clash event, or else was polished sufficiently to remove all trace of the encounter. This specimen is documented in the collection of Bob Piazza. The 1954-S was struck at San Francisco during the final years of Victor David Brenner's Wheat Cent design, which would be replaced by Frank Gasparro's Memorial reverse in 1959.
