1953-S Repunched Mintmark RPM-002

Documented by VarietyVista on the 1953-S Jefferson Nickel, RPM-002 is a repunched mintmark variety catalogued under UVC-388 and DMR-003. Jefferson Nickels were designed by Felix Schlag in 1938, and the 1953-S is a San Francisco Mint issue from the era of individually hand-punched mintmarks. Die stages are documented in three phases: Stage A, at early die state on both faces, is marked by a die gouge through the lower first S of STATES on the reverse. Stage B sees both reverse and obverse reach mid-die state. Stage C is late die state, currently unconfirmed.
