1952-S Repunched Mintmark WRPM-008
Error
Description
Cataloged by the Wexler Team with Variety ID: 1952-S 5¢ WRPM-008, this Jefferson Nickel from the San Francisco Mint has no other external cross-references known. Die markers include SE die scratches below the chin on the obverse. The reverse shows light NNW/SSE die scratches in the right archway, a WSW die scratch from the rim above the S in PLURIBUS, and a die gouge (dot) above the left side of the building. The reverse markers are notably diverse -- directional scratches, a radial rim scratch, and a die gouge -- distributed across building and inscription areas, providing multiple independent authentication points. At 75% copper and 25% nickel, 5.0 grams and 21.21 mm, Schlag's design was in its 15th year and each die received its S mintmark through manual application before production.
