Description

By 1952, the master hub carrying the WMHO-001 doubling had been in service for its second year, continuing to transfer its clockwise spread to every working hub and working die produced at Philadelphia. The moderate displacement pivots from approximately 3:00 and manifests on IN GOD WE TRUST — the same diagnostic pattern visible on 1951 through 1954 quarters from all mints. CONECA classifies this master hub variety as SD-4-O-V, and the Wexler Team catalogs it as 1952 25-cent WMHO-001. Philadelphia`s 1952 quarters bear no mintmark, struck in 90% silver as part of the Washington Silver Quarters series that ran from 1932 to 1964. The concept of master hub doubling is often misunderstood: unlike a doubled die where one specific die received a misaligned impression, here the doubling was baked into the master tool itself. Every die descending from it inherited the displacement. After a full year of service producing 1951-dated dies, the master hub`s surfaces had accumulated some wear, potentially producing marginally softer doubling on 1952 working hubs compared to 1951, though individual die condition remains the primary variable in doubling visibility.
