1951-D Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-001

Description

A strong Class V counter-clockwise pivoted hub doubling from a pivot near 6:00 spreads displacement across the letters of IN GOD WE TRUST and throughout LIBERTY on the 1951-D Lincoln Wheat cent WDDO-001. Die marker documentation distinguishes two obverse and two reverse stages. In Obverse Stage A, a long die scratch runs south-southwest from the upper left T in LIBERTY — the primary anchor for die identification. By Stage B, heavy die abrasion has obliterated this marker entirely, requiring collectors to rely on doubling strength and reverse markers alone. On the reverse, Stage A shows a die scratch from the upper left O in ONE toward the first U in PLURIBUS; Stage B replaces that with a short die crack extending north from the top of the left wheat ear. Lincoln Wheat cents are struck in 95% copper bronze. The 1951-D was produced in sufficient quantity that attribution specimens can be located with dedicated searching; the FS and CONECA listings together confirm this is a well-recognized collected variety.
