1950-S Repunched Mintmark RPM-017

Description

Assigned UVC-2810 and DMR-020, the 1950-S Lincoln Wheat Cent RPM-017 is characterized by an eastward S/S secondary punch shift. Three die stages are documented in the VarietyVista reference. Stage A is early die state, currently unconfirmed. Stage B is the most thoroughly described phase: a die scratch is present running north from the Y of LIBERTY on the obverse, and the reverse is confirmed mid-die state — the paired markers making Stage B the most reliably attributed phase. Stage C is late die state, currently unconfirmed. The Stage B obverse scratch above LIBERTY provides a useful cross-marker for identification independent of mintmark legibility. Struck in the standard 95% copper, 5% tin and zinc bronze composition, the 1950-S Wheat Cent carries Victor David Brenner's wheat ear reverse, and RPM-017 occupies a defined position within the VarietyVista 1950-S repunched mintmark catalog alongside numerous other documented eastward and directionally distinct shift varieties for the date.
