1950-S Repunched Mintmark RPM-015

Description

Documented by VarietyVista, this 1950 San Francisco Wheat Cent exhibits matching directional die scratches on both faces, an unusual observation. Die markers: UVC-1144, DMR-018. Stage A: EDS (unconfirmed). Stage B: Die scratches north-south on obverse — MDS; die scratches north-south on reverse — MDS. Stage C: LDS (unconfirmed). The parallel north-south scratches on both dies are uncommon because obverse and reverse dies are typically prepared independently; matching directional marks suggest either a simultaneous finishing operation or common environmental exposure. Struck at San Francisco in 1950, composed of 95% copper, 5% tin/zinc (3.11 g, 19.05 mm). The 1950-S had a mintage of approximately 118.5 million cents. Brenner's wheat ears reverse was in its 41st year, with only eight production years remaining before its 1958 replacement.
