1950-S Repunched Mintmark RPM-006

Description

An S/S/S East, West triple-punched mintmark variety, this VarietyVista-documented 1950-S Lincoln Wheat Cent records a reverse die change mid-production alongside contrasting displacement directions. Die markers begin with UVC-346 / DMR-007: Stage A at EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B with several strong die scratches north from LIBERTY at MDS and reverse at MDS; Stage C with obverse at LMDS and die crack from upper left wheat to rim at LMDS. A reverse die change yields UVC-347 / DMR-008: Stage D with obverse die scratches almost gone at LDS, reverse die changed to MDS, and rim to rim die crack through right wheat. The triple S/S/S with both east and west displacements indicates at least three punch applications with directionally opposite errors. Composed of 95% copper and 5% tin-zinc at 3.11 grams and 19.05 mm, struck at the San Francisco Mint during the Korean War era.
