Description

DDO-003 on the 1950 Philadelphia Washington quarter shows light doubling affecting both the date and the IN GOD WE TRUST motto — two obverse elements whose simultaneous involvement points to a broad angular displacement during the hubbing process. The 1950 is a notable date in the Washington quarter series: the Philadelphia issue had a relatively modest mintage of approximately 24.9 million pieces, while the 1950-D is considerably scarcer and serves as a key date for the series. Reported by Gil Medina, this doubled die obverse documents a working die from the early post-war period when the John Flanagan design was entering its second decade.
