1949-S Repunched Mintmark WRPM-004
ErrorDescription
Cataloged by the Wexler Team, this 1949-S Jefferson Nickel from the San Francisco Mint carries a repunched S mintmark. Cross-referenced as CONECA: RPM #3; Wexler Variety ID: 1949-S 5¢ WRPM-004. Obverse die markers include a diagonal die scratch inside the upper B in LIBERTY. Reverse markers show a small die gouge just to the right of the bottom of the mintmark, and a small die gouge (dot) to the right of the top of the D in UNITED. The CONECA cross-reference as RPM #3 provides independent third-party validation. Composed of 75% copper and 25% nickel at 5.0 grams and 21.21 mm, the 1949-S had a relatively modest mintage of approximately 3.7 million pieces, making it one of the lower-production post-war San Francisco Jefferson Nickel issues and enhancing the significance of documented die varieties.
