Description
Cross-referenced as Fivaz-Stanton FS-601 in the Cherrypickers' Guide, this 1949-D Washington Silver Quarter exhibits a D/D South repunched mintmark documented by VarietyVista with die markers UVC-0692 / DMR-007. Three stages: Stage A at EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B at MDS with a strong die scratch running northeast from the E of QUARTER on the reverse and the obverse also at MDS; Stage C at LDS (unconfirmed). The strong die scratch from QUARTER provides a prominent reverse identification marker. John Flanagan designed the Washington Quarter. Struck at the Denver Mint in 90% silver and 10% copper, weighing 6.25 grams with a 24.3 mm diameter. The 1949-D had a mintage of approximately 10.1 million pieces, relatively modest, limiting the surviving variety population.
