Description
The 1949 (D) Franklin Half Dollar is a half dollar produced at the Denver Mint as part of the Franklin Half Dollars 1948-1963 series. With a mintage of 4.1 million, this is a scarce issue — ranked 2nd of 3 mint variants by mintage, with 31% of production. The obverse features Benjamin Franklin facing right and the reverse displays the Liberty Bell. The 1949-S is a semi-key date with a lower mintage. Three mints struck halves: Philadelphia, Denver, San Francisco. Struck at the Denver Mint, established in 1906 from an earlier assay office that processed Colorado gold rush metal. Estimated market value ranges from $37 to $399 depending on grade and condition. Struck in 90% silver, 10% copper, weighing 12.5 grams, 30 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge.
