1949-D Repunched Mintmark WRPM-004

Description

Cataloged by the Wexler Team and cross-referenced as CONECA RPM #2, this 1949-D Jefferson Nickel shows D/D South. The obverse has a small die gouge below the I of IN. The reverse features a die gouge (dot) positioned in alignment with the top of Monticello's dome and the right upper porch above the roof — using the building's architecture as reference points, a technique characteristic of Jefferson Nickel attribution. Struck at Denver in 1949, this nickel is 75% copper and 25% nickel, weighing 5.0 grams at 21.21 mm diameter. Schlag designed the Jefferson Nickel after winning a public competition in 1938, and his Monticello reverse provided the architectural framework that die markers are described relative to. The CONECA RPM #2 confirms independent verification.
