1949-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-003

Also displaying a D/D Rotated Clockwise displacement like RPM-001, this 1949-D Jefferson Nickel RPM-003 shows a different degree of rotational misalignment warranting separate cataloging. Documented by VarietyVista with codes UVC-368 and DMR-004, the distinction lies in the specific angle and geometry of the rotation — subtle differences in how far the secondary punch landed relative to the primary. Struck in 75% copper and 25% nickel at Denver, the coin belongs to the postwar era of moderate production. Die progression spans three stages: Stage A (EDS), Stage B (MDS), and Stage C with obverse and reverse in LDS. That two 1949-D RPMs share a clockwise rotational direction might suggest a tendency in Denver's punching technique, though each represents a different working die. As RPM-003, this is the third most prominent repunched mintmark for the date, behind RPM-001 and RPM-002 in the hierarchy.
