Description
A D/D East repunched mintmark on this 1948-D Jefferson Nickel was documented by VarietyVista with die markers UVC-360 / DMR-003. Three stages: Stage A at EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B with reverse and obverse at MDS; Stage C at LDS (unconfirmed). The cataloger notes the need to examine a specimen for new color digital photos, indicating the current documentation relies on older or lower-resolution imagery. The eastward displacement means the initial D was placed slightly west, with the corrective second punch establishing the final placement further east. Composed of 75% copper and 25% nickel, weighing 5.0 grams with a 21.21 mm diameter. Struck at the Denver Mint in 1948, three years after the return to standard copper-nickel composition following the wartime silver alloy period.
