1947-S Repunched Mintmark RPM-001
Error
Description
Holding the primary catalog position for the 1947-S date, this VarietyVista-documented Lincoln Wheat Cent shows an S/S/S North, South triple-punched mintmark using MMS-004 (Trumpet Tail) punch identification, with four progressive die stages. Die markers UVC-290 / DMR-003: Stage A with strong die scratches north-south through nose and under chin at EDS and reverse at EDS; Stage B with medium obverse die scratches at MDS and reverse at MDS; Stage C with weak obverse die scratches at LDS and reverse at LDS; Stage D with weak secondary mintmark at VLDS and reverse at VLDS. The triple S/S/S pattern with both north and south displacements documents at least three separate punch applications with directionally opposite errors. Composed of 95% copper and 5% tin-zinc at 3.11 grams and 19.05 mm, the prominent nose and chin die scratches provide a strong early-state attribution marker.
