1947 Doubled Die Obverse DDO-002
Error
Description
Recorded by VarietyVista, this 1947 Lincoln Wheat Cent DDO-002 exhibits hub doubling on the obverse design elements where a misalignment during the die hubbing process left visible doubled impressions. The spread on this variety is wider than DDO-003, establishing a relative diagnostic relationship between these two entries. Die markers UVC-1751 / DMR-003 track three stages: Stage A with obverse and reverse at EDS; Stage B at MDS (unconfirmed); Stage C at LDS (unconfirmed). Struck at the Philadelphia Mint in 95% copper and 5% tin-zinc at 3.11 grams and 19.05 mm, the 1947 Wheat Cent was produced during the post-war era as Lincoln Cent mintages rebounded following wartime restrictions. The wider spread compared to DDO-003 makes this variety more visually prominent and generally easier to attribute under magnification.
