1947-D Doubled Die Reverse DDR-001
Error
Description
As the primary doubled die reverse cataloged for the 1947 Denver Roosevelt Dime, DDR-001 shows light spread confined to the lower letters of ONE DIME — a focused area of hub doubling on the denomination inscription. Cataloged by VarietyVista as UVC-149 with die marriage DMR-004, the variety is documented across three die states: early and mid die states remain unconfirmed, while Stage C captures both reverse and obverse in late die state. The concentration of confirmed specimens in late die state suggests this variety may be most commonly found on well-circulated coins where the die had seen extensive use, or simply that late die state examples were the first to be studied. The Roosevelt Dime debuted just a year earlier in 1946, designed by John R. Sinnock to honor President Franklin D. Roosevelt following his death in April 1945 — Roosevelt's connection to the March of Dimes campaign made the dime denomination a fitting tribute. The 1947-D is therefore a second-year issue in the series, and DDR-001 documents hub doubling from the earliest era of Roosevelt Dime production when dies were still being prepared for a relatively new design. Struck in 90% silver at 17.9mm at the Denver Mint. Examine the lower portions of ONE DIME for the characteristic light spread that defines this early Roosevelt Dime variety.
