1946-S Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-007

Description

From the inaugural year of the Roosevelt Dime series, struck in 90% silver at San Francisco, this Wexler-attributed variety was previously listed as WDDO-021 before being reassigned to WDDO-007 following discovery of the doubled obverse working hub WWHO-001. The doubling is a counterclockwise (CCW) spread pivoting at approximately 2:00, visible on IN GOD WE TRUST, the JS designer initials, and the date. Obverse die markers include Type I die gouges from the rim between 7:00 and 8:00, a northeast-southwest die scratch connecting the horizontal bar of the T in LIBERTY to the R, and a long die scratch running south from the bottom of the nose. The reverse exhibits a trumpet-tail S mintmark, the doubling characteristics of the doubled working hub WWHR-001, die clash marks at both olives, and two die gouges appearing as dots between the upper CA in AMERICA. Attribution requires confirming the CCW spread along with the trumpet-tail mintmark and the olive clash marks — three independent markers that together provide a reliable identification framework for this 1946-S Roosevelt Dime.
