1946-S Doubled Die Obverse DDO-013

Description

From the first year of the Roosevelt Dime — John R. Sinnock's design replacing the Winged Liberty Head in 1946 — this thirteenth documented DDO for the San Francisco Mint issue shows light spread running top to bottom on the date and designer's initials. The inaugural year of any design attracts strong collector interest, and DDOs from 1946-S carry the added appeal of first-year-of-issue status. Cataloged by VarietyVista under UVC-121 with die marker reference DMR-029, three die states are documented. Stage C shows late die state characteristics including die scratches running north-south through the first U of PLURIBUS. The obverse is classified as ODV-001 and the reverse as MMS-002 with a Ball serif lettering characteristic — VarietyVista designations providing additional attribution detail beyond the primary doubling. The directional spread — top to bottom on both date and initials — indicates consistent vertical displacement during hubbing.
