Description

Twelfth doubled die obverse cataloged for the 1946 San Francisco Mint Roosevelt Dime, DDO-012 displays light spread on LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST with very light spread on designer John R. Sinnock's JS initials. As a first-year Roosevelt Dime variety, this entry documents die-making variation from the debut production run of a design that has now endured for eight decades. Cataloged by VarietyVista under die marker codes UVC-108 and DMR-016, the variety is tracked across four die states including the rare VLDS designation: Stage A at early die state with a die gouge dot in the field between the head and rim at the K-12:30 position, Stage B at mid-die-state (unconfirmed), Stage C with both obverse and reverse at late die state, and Stage D with both sides at very late die state. The progression through VLDS indicates some specimens survived deep into the die's operational life. The obverse is classified ODV-001, while the reverse carries the MMS-001 Trumpet tail mint mark style — distinct from the Ball serif style found on DDO-003. Identifying this variety requires examining LIBERTY and the motto under magnification for the light spread.
