Description

Cataloged by VarietyVista as DDO-005 for the inaugural-year San Francisco Roosevelt Dime, this doubled die obverse exhibits medium spread on LIBERTY with lighter spread across the forehead and IN GOD WE TRUST. The die progresses through four documented stages with codes UVC-101 and DMR-009. Stage A is early die state, unconfirmed. Stage B reaches mid-die state on the obverse while the reverse is listed as RPM-008 at mid-die state, pairing this doubled obverse with a repunched mintmark reverse. Stage C develops a light die crack running northeast through the hair at late die state, with the reverse also reaching LDS. Stage D advances to very late die state where a medium die crack appears in the hair, signaling the die's terminal use. The obverse is classified as ODV-001, and its paired reverse carries both RPM-008 and MMS-001 designations, the latter identified as the Trumpet Tail variant. John R. Sinnock's Roosevelt design debuted in 1946, making die varieties from this first year of production particularly significant for series specialists.
