1946 Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-015

Description

DieMarkers: Obverse Stage A: Type I. Long NW die scratch from the rim at 3:00 nearly to the back of the head. Series of N/S die scratches in the area of the neck and jaw where the crease forms. Die scratch at the upper nose west of the eye. SE die scratch from the back of the neck near the bust. Heavy die gouge above the U of TRUST from die polishing. Strong die scratch, south from the throat nearly to the last T of TRUST. The S in the designer's initials is much stronger to the right. Obverse Stage B: N/S die scratch on the ear NE of the earlobe. Die gouge at the upper chin area. Series of E/W die scratches above the point of the bust and above TRUST. Weaker stage A markers. Obverse Stage C: Three N/S die scratches in the field west of the upper lip. N/S die scratch connecting the upper nose and the brow. Series of NNE/SSW die scratches in the BERTY area of LIBERTY. Weaker stage B markers. Stage A markers are weak to gone. Reverse Stage A: The reverse of this stage is a doubled die listed in the Wexler Doubled Die Files as 1946 10¢ WDDR-008 (formerly WDDR-013). A Class V CW spread from a pivot at 11:00 shows on UNUM, OF AMERICA, ONE DIME and the dots. Die clash from the left side of the olive leaves to the stem. Die scratches NNE/SSW between the oak stem and the IM of DIME. Die scratches north from both U's of UNUM extending to both sides of the left acorn. Reverse Stage B: New reverse die. The reverse of this stage is a doubled die listed in the Wexler Doubled Die Files as 1946 10¢ WDDR-006. A Class V CW spread from a pivot at about 3:00 shows on ONE DIME, the E PLUR of EPU, and UNITED. SW/NE die scratches through the US and first U of PLURIBUS UNUM and the acorn. Die scratch south from the lower right N of UNUM. N/S die scratch between the top olive leaf and the A of STATES. Reverse Stage C: N/S Die scratches throughout the olive branch and at both sides of the torch holder. New scratch from the right lower leg of the N in UNUM curving toward the oak stem. Stage B scratches are very weak.
