1946 Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-007
Error
Description
From the inaugural year of the Roosevelt Dime series, the 1946 WDDO-007 exhibits a close spread towards the center on the letters of LIBERTY. Originally cataloged as WDDO-023, this variety was reassigned to WDDO-007 after the discovery that a doubled obverse working hub had created gaps in the earlier listing sequence, requiring reorganization of the entire 1946 Roosevelt Dime doubled die inventory. Attributed by the Wexler Team, the obverse die markers include strong scratches above the eye and on the nose of Roosevelt's portrait, while the reverse shows a long die scratch running NNE/SSW on the torch flame and NNW/SSE die scratches centered inside the O of ONE. John R. Sinnock's Roosevelt Dime design debuted in 1946 following President Roosevelt's death in April 1945, and doubled die varieties from this first-year issue carry particular significance for series specialists. The Type I classification indicates this is a rotated hub doubling variety.
