Description

Fourteenth cataloged doubled die obverse for the inaugural 1946 Roosevelt Dime, this VarietyVista variety carries die identifiers UVC-016 and DMR-016 and displays strong spread across an exceptionally broad range of obverse design elements: the date, John Sinnock's JS designer initials from top to bottom, IN GOD WE TRUST, the base of Roosevelt's bust, and lighter spread on LI of LIBERTY and the back of the neck. Three die stages are documented: Stage A in early die state is unconfirmed, Stage B shows a long light die scratch parallel to and on the fold of the neck at mid-die state with the reverse also at mid-die state, and Stage C confirms both obverse and reverse at late die state. A comments note identifies this as obverse die variant ODV-001. The strong spread across date, designer's initials, motto, and bust detail marks DDO-014 as one of the more dramatic doubled dies for the inaugural Roosevelt Dime date. John Sinnock designed the Roosevelt Dime in 1946 to honor President Franklin D. Roosevelt, who had died in April 1945.
