Error
Description
Cataloged as DDO-011 (UVC-013, DMR-013), this inaugural-year 1946 Roosevelt dime shows light spreading on the date, designer's initials (top to bottom), and TRUST. The obverse is also designated ODV-001. Five die stages document extensive use. Stage A in early-mid die state shows two parallel die gouges southwest from the rim at the K-12 position, with a die scratch curving from the lower chin to the I of LIBERTY. Stage B is mid-die state. Stage C at late-mid die state develops numerous scratches in front of the profile and on the upper reverse. Stage D shows new scratch patterns on both sides. Stage E in late die state presents new scratches in front of the profile and swirling die scratches under STATES. The five-stage progression reveals how the Mint continued using this die through multiple resurfacing attempts, each stage producing a different scratch pattern.
