1946-D Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-003

Description

Obverse design elements where doubling typically manifests on Lincoln Wheat Cents include the tall letters of LIBERTY positioned to the left of Lincoln's portrait, the motto IN GOD WE TRUST arcing above, and the date to the right. Each of these inscriptions contains fine serifs and precisely rendered strokes that reveal even minor hub displacement under appropriate magnification. WDDO-003 from the 1946-D issue is the third doubled die obverse documented for Denver's postwar bronze production, a year that saw the Mint return to the composition used from the series' inception in 1909 through 1942.
