Description

Reaching the twelfth documented doubled die obverse for the 1945 Philadelphia Lincoln Wheat Cent, DDO-012 exhibits strong spread directed south on Lincoln's eyelid, matching the diagnostic pattern on several other 1945 doubled dies but originating from a distinct working die. Cataloged by VarietyVista under UVC-1688 and DMR-029, the strong classification indicates the doubling is readily visible under standard magnification, with clear separation between primary and secondary eyelid impressions. Three die states are documented: Stage A in Early Die State, Stage B in Mid Die State, and Stage C in Late Die State. The southward spread indicates the hub shifted slightly downward between impressions during die preparation. Philadelphia's 1945 cent production exceeded one billion pieces, a wartime peak that consumed enormous numbers of working dies and generated a rich population of varieties. Twelve documented DDO varieties for a single date and mint reflects both the volume of dies used and the intensity of researcher attention devoted to this wartime year. No mint mark appears on these coins, confirming Philadelphia origin.
