1945-D Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-005
ErrorDescription
A wartime silver alloy Jefferson Nickel struck at Denver, the 1945-D WDDO-005 displays Class V Pivoted Hub Doubling with a counterclockwise spread radiating from a pivot point at approximately ten o'clock. The doubling manifests on IN GOD, LIBERTY, the star, and the date. Attributed by John Bordner and cross-referenced as CONECA 3-O-V, this variety is also linked in a die marriage with the reverse listed as 1945-D 5c WRPM-020, a D/D East repunched mintmark — making any single coin potentially attributable for both obverse doubling and reverse mintmark repunching. Obverse die markers include parallel die scratches running southwest to northeast to the left of Jefferson's upper lip and nose. The reverse shows a circular die scratch pattern on the left side of the Monticello building. The convergence of Class V hub doubling on the obverse with a repunched mintmark on the reverse makes this die marriage particularly appealing to collectors seeking dual-attribution varieties.
