1945-D Doubled Die Obverse DDO-007
Error
Description
The seventh cataloged doubled die obverse for the 1945-D Jefferson nickel, DDO-007 shows light doubling on the motto IN GOD WE TRUST along the upper obverse. Struck at the Denver Mint during the final months of World War II, this coin belongs to the silver-composition wartime series (1942-1945) identifiable by the large "D" mintmark above Monticello's dome on the reverse. The Denver facility operated at peak capacity during wartime, producing over 37 million nickels in 1945 alone, and the high-volume production environment increased opportunities for hub doubling to develop during die manufacturing. Classified as UVC-794 with die marriage DMR-061 in the VarietyVista system, this variety's light doubling requires careful examination under magnification — the letters of IN GOD WE TRUST show subtle spread that may be overlooked without deliberate comparison to an undoubled example. Among the later entries in the 1945-D DDO census, this variety demonstrates that even minor hub misalignments were systematically documented by the attribution community.
