Description

Twenty-fourth in the Wexler doubled die obverse catalog for 1944-S Lincoln Wheat Cents, WDDO-024 shows an extra eyelid south of the normal eyelid on Lincoln's portrait. The serif "S" mintmark style helps narrow the attribution, as San Francisco used multiple mintmark punch styles across the wartime years. Detailed die markers on both sides anchor identification. On the obverse, a die scratch runs parallel to the rim above the letters in TRUST, creating a distinctive linear feature in the motto zone. The reverse carries die scratches running south-southwest to north-northeast through the lower C in CENT.
