Assigned attribution codes UVC-0412 and DMR-037, the 1944 DDR-004 Washington quarter displays medium hub-doubling spread on the word QUARTER as well as on the lower left leaves and stem of the heraldic eagle's olive branch. Medium spread on design elements of varying scale, from large text to fine botanical details, indicates a doubling event significant enough to affect both bold and delicate features. Stage A specimens show both the reverse and obverse at early-to-mid die state, meaning the earliest coins from this die pair preserve the sharpest doubling before any die-wear softening. Philadelphia struck 104.9 million silver quarters in 1944, continuing the massive wartime output. Doubled die reverses affecting the denomination text are among the most popular varieties with Washington quarter collectors because the word QUARTER is large enough for the doubling to be appreciated without extreme magnification. The additional spread on the olive branch leaves provides a secondary confirmation point for accurate attribution.
