Description
Showing a P/P Tilted displacement, this 1944 Philadelphia wartime Jefferson Nickel was documented by VarietyVista. Die markers UVC-173 / DMR-027: Stage A EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B MDS (unconfirmed); Stage C LDS with a strong horizontal die scratch above the T of MONTICELLO and obverse LDS. The strong scratch above the T at Stage C provides a prominent late-state attribution marker. Tilted RPMs create a non-parallel overlap with varying separation around the P's perimeter, distinguishing them from simple directional shifts. Struck in the wartime alloy of 56% copper, 35% silver, and 9% manganese at 5.0 grams and 21.21 mm, the 1944-P was the third full year of emergency alloy production. The oversized P above Monticello's dome required manual punch application to every working die, and this tilted variety documents an angular misalignment during that process. P/P Tilted.
