Description

The 1943-S Washington Quarter WDDO-009 presents a spread toward the center on LIBERTY that increases from left to right, a gradient characteristic of rotational hub doubling where the pivot point falls near the left side. Extra thickness also appears slightly on IN GOD WE TRUST, confirming the doubling affected multiple obverse elements. The increasing-spread pattern means the L of LIBERTY shows minimal displacement while the Y displays the widest separation — a useful diagnostic when examining specimens. The 1943-S was struck at San Francisco in 90% silver during the height of World War II. Obverse die markers include a die crack running across the base of the bust and the lower queue — the tied ponytail at the back of Washington's head — providing an immediately visible attribution aid. Reverse markers include feeder finger abrasions through the upper TE in STATES and a die crack descending down the eagle's right wing.
