1943-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-011

Description

Cataloged by VarietyVista with markers UVC-0349 and DMR-025, the 1943-D Washington Quarter RPM-011 shows a D/D Southeast configuration, meaning the secondary punch impression falls southeast of the final mintmark. The 1943 Washington Quarter was struck in 90% silver; wartime metal conservation applied to cents and nickels but silver quarters continued their established composition. Three die stages are documented. Stage A (early die state) is unconfirmed. Stage B presents mid-die state on the reverse, with a die crack across the bust and two die cracks across the hair on the obverse. Stage C (late die state) is unconfirmed. The Stage B obverse die cracks in the portrait area — across the bust and across the hair — confirm the die had reached substantial fatigue by the mid-stage. This cracking pattern is common in silver quarter die longevity. The Washington Quarter design by John Flanagan has remained in use since 1932, with the 90% silver war-era issues forming a well-studied subset from a variety standpoint.
