1943-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-005

Description

The 1943-D Washington Quarter RPM-005 is a wartime silver quarter repunched mintmark variety cataloged with die marker codes UVC-0344 and DMR-020, documented across three die stages. John Flanagan's Washington quarters were struck in 90% silver through 1964, and the Denver Mint's 1943 production occurred under wartime conditions that sometimes affected mintmark application precision. Stage A finds both obverse and reverse in early die state with the repunch detail at its clearest. Stage B introduces two die cracks: a light crack develops down the eagle's right wing, and a separate crack crosses the upper hair and enters the field below the T of LIBERTY — mid-die state markers that provide secondary attribution confirmation. Stage C, late die state, is as yet unconfirmed. The Stage B wing and hair-field cracks assist attribution when the mintmark repunch is softened by wear. Early die state examples with crisp mintmark detail are the most desirable.
