1943-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-001

Description

Premier-ranked among documented 1943-D Wartime Jefferson Nickel repunched mintmarks, RPM-001 carries VarietyVista codes UVC-117 and DMR-002 as well as the Cherrypickers' Guide designation FS-501 — the standard FS-501 attribution confirming its status in mainstream numismatic reference literature. The variety is a D/D South repunching: a secondary D impression sits south of the primary mintmark, visible at 5x magnification on the large mintmark placed above Monticello on the reverse. Wartime Jefferson Nickels (1942–1945) were struck in a 35% silver alloy to conserve nickel for war production; the large mintmark above Monticello was the Mint's visual signal for the silver composition. RPM-001 progresses through three die stages: Stage A (EDS) is unconfirmed, Stage B (MDS) develops a die crack from the top of Washington's head running southeast, and Stage C (LDS) is unconfirmed pending additional specimens.
