1942 Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-007

Description

Cross-referenced as CONECA 5-O-II+V and Coppercoins 1942P-1DO-013, this 1942 Lincoln Wheat Cent WDDO-007 exhibits a Class V clockwise spread from a pivot point at approximately 1:00, with the spread visible on the date, LIBERTY, and IN. Class V pivot doubling produces a rotational displacement where elements closer to the pivot show less spread while those farther away show progressively more, creating a fan-like pattern across the affected area. The CONECA designation 5-O-II+V indicates both Class II and Class V characteristics were identified — a combined classification suggesting the hub displacement incorporated elements of both distortion and pivoting during the secondary impression. Victor David Brenner's bronze obverse (95% copper, 5% tin and zinc) renders the date and LIBERTY inscription at sizes where rotational doubling from a 1:00 pivot produces measurable separation.
