1942 Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-001

Description

Cross-referenced as CONECA 1-O-I and Coppercoins 1942P-1DO-001, the 1942 Lincoln Wheat Cent WDDO-001 exhibits a very nice Class I clockwise spread on LIBERTY, the date, and IN GOD WE TRUST. Class I clockwise rotation produces a characteristic angular displacement where design elements shift in a rotational pattern, with the degree of spread varying by distance from the pivot point. The clockwise direction means elements rotate in the same direction as clock hands when viewed from the front of the coin. The triple cross-referencing across Wexler, CONECA, and Coppercoins systems confirms this variety's established attribution. LIBERTY and the date, being positioned on opposite sides of the obverse, provide widely separated diagnostic zones that allow collectors to confirm the rotational spread pattern from multiple vantage points. Die Markers: Obverse: A small die gouge can be found below and between the E and R in LIBERTY. A small die gouge can be found above and between the G and O in GOD. A die scratch runs parallel to the rim between the S and T in TRUST. Reverse: A short die scratch runs east from the center horizontal bar of the E in AMERICA.
